BUS2TALK: MODERN URBAN MOBILITY WITH ’CHOOSE PARIS REGION’

At the end of April in the podcast studio at BUS2BUS 2024 Totinia Hörner talked to Romain Erny, Head of the Business Sectors and Aftercare Team at Choose Paris Region, about developments in urban mobility in Paris.

Led by the city’s mayor Anne Hidalgo, the Paris region has kickstarted numerous projects, including expanding the bike lane network, establishing low-emission zones, creating a 15-minute city concept, and making Paris greener by planting 170,000 trees by the end of 2026.

“There is still a long way to go to make cycling an even better experience, especially where safety is concerned. However, the changes for cyclists and pedestrians over the last five to ten years are amazing", says Erny, who doesn’t own a car and prefers to walk or take an e-bike.

Anne Hidalgo’s vision of a greener city led to Paris becoming an example for other major cities. Getting to this point was not easy, however. “We faced enormous logistical and financial challenges," Erny says.

Find out in this episode about the Paris region’s strategy for further reducing CO2 emissions, why some measures met with public resistance, what plans exist for the Olympic Games, and why Romain Erny believes no single magic mobility solution exists that works equally well for every major city.
